Profile & History

The Empire PoolThe UBC Aquatic Centre is a public facility located on the campus of the University of British Columbia, next to the War Memorial Gym and Student Union Building.

The Empire Pool (see picture) was built for the 1954 Empire Games and has served the community for over 50 years.

The indoor facility opened in 1978 and consists of a 50m, 8 lane indoor pool with diving boards/towers from 1 to 5m; a whirlpool; saunas & steam rooms and a gym.

We serve the UBC Community (students, faculty, staff, residents) as well as the entire Lower Mainland and visitors from other regions and countries.

We offer programs for all ages and abilities and welcome EVERYONE.

The UBC Aquatic Centre takes pride in providing the clearest and cleanest water and being very user friendly.
